Virginia Smith Byram

Type Obit Here Virginia Smith Byram passed away peacefully at Cenoma House early Saturday morning September 24th, 2016 in Twin Falls, Idaho. Virginia was born on August 9th, 1925 in Sacramento California to Hazel H Ward. Hazel married Dr. Mark A Gardner in the early 30's. They left Sacramento to live in Detroit, Michigan during early part of the depression. Hazel had two sons, Mark Gardner and Ward B. Gardner. The family later moved back to Sacramento in the late 30's. Virginia married Cecil Arthur Bradshaw, he joined the service during world war two and they were stationed in Florida. After the war they moved back to Sacramento and she went to work for the Pacific Telephone Company. She had two sons from their marriage, David Michael Bradshaw and Kevin Arthur Bradshaw. On June 18th 1956 Virginia married high school sweetheart Harry Keith Byram. Keith worked for the Sacramento Police department and worked up to detective. Keith took a job with the Los Angeles Narcotics Division, which they moved to Southern California and Virginia transferred with the Pacific Bell Telephone Company. In addition to her regular job, she worked in their public relations program and she gave talks about the Apollo program and AT&T's roll in the project in the mid 60's. The old saying "Behind a good man is a good woman", Virginia was no exception as she supported Keith's time at law school and passing the bar and going into private practice 1967. Keith and Virginia moved to Newhall in 1973 when Keith was appointed Commissioner in the LA Court system. Virginia served as supervisor at the Pacific Telephone company in Newhall until she retired at age 57. In 1982, Virginia served as campaign manager for Keith when he ran for Newhall Municipal Judge and served 14 years before retiring. Virginia was also very active with the Republican Party in the 80's and 90's. She received "Woman of the Year" in 1989 from California Senator Ed Davis. Virginia enjoyed sailing with Keith, gardening, cards, scrabble and politics. Keith passed away in October of 2003. Virginia moved to Twin Falls Idaho to be near her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Irene Bradshaw who built her a home in the Los Lagos Subdivision. Virginia enjoyed playing bridge with a weekly group and a monthly group. She enjoyed the friendships she made in Twin Falls. Virginia also became involved with the First Presbyterian Church where she served with the Circle 5 Group. She lived in her home until late 2013 where she then moved in with, Kevin and Irene Bradshaw, as she was in the early stages of dementia. She later lived at Bridgeview, Grace Assisted Living, Ashley Manor and Cenoma House. Virginia will now join her mother Hazel Alvaro, brother Mark Gardner and husband Keith. Virginia is survived by her brother Ward Gardener (Darlene), and son Michael David Bradshaw of Phoenix, AZ, son Kevin Arthur Bradshaw (Irene) of Twin Falls, ID, stepson Patrick Allison Byram of Bear Valley, CA, stepdaughter Michael Eileen Haugland (Robert) of Sacramento, CA, Granddaughter Annie Dockstader (Chad) and great granddaughter Juliette Ann Dockstader (born 8-9-16) of Twin Falls and grandchildren Jennifer, Beth, Grace of Arizona and great grandchildren, nieces nephews,. A small service is scheduled in the First Presbyterian Chapel, 209 Fifth Avenue North on Saturday October 8th, 1:30pm. A family reunion celebrating Virginia's life will be held later in California. The ashes of Virginia and Keith to be scatter next summer. Virginia was a giving person and loved her pets.
