Verl Harvard Rice 77, of Eden passed away suddenly and peacefully on Wednesday November 11, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Verl was born in Mountain Home, Arkansas on June 27, 1937 to Daisy and Emmett Rice. When Verl was young they moved to Eden, Idaho where he attended school and graduated from Valley High School. After graduation he joined and served in the US Army for 4 years where he was stationed in France during that time. He met the love of his life Betty Rife in 1965 and they were later married on June 9, 1966. Verl worked as a bean house manager for over 40 years until he retired. Verl enjoyed hunting and camping with his family. To describe Verl as a man of few words would be an understatement. Verl had a stubborn, loving soul. He loved animals, and his family affectionately referred to him as the animal whisperer. Wild deer would eat out of the palm of his hands during family camping trips. Verl had a wealth of knowledge and was referred to as the human encyclopedia. If you were playing trivial pursuit you would fight for Verl on your team. Verl was preceded in death by his parents Harvard and Daisy Rice, his brother Zane Rice, and his sister Connie Cunningham. Verl is survived by his loving wife Betty Rice; sons Mike (Becky) Rice, Steve (Micki) Rice and David (Heidi) Rice. He is also survived by his grandchildren Emma Rice, Lauryn Rice, Jentry Rice, and Garrett Rice. Verl’s grandchildren were the light of his life he was extremely proud of his family. Selfishly we will all miss Verl terribly but we rejoice that he is in the arms of our savior Jesus Christ and spending time with old family and friends. A celebration of Verl’s life will be held on Saturday November 15, 2014 at 4:00 pm at Rosenau Funeral Home, 2826 Addison Ave E, Twin Falls. Arrangements are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.
