April 22, 1950 — December 3, 2024

Vaughn Ferris Sweet, 74, of Spokane, Washington, passed away unexpectedly, from a heart condition, on December 3, 2024 in Spokane. Vaughn was born April 22, 1950, to Ferris and Mary Anne Lulloff Sweet in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was the oldest of three children, growing up on the family farm southwest of Twin Falls. Vaughn loved working on the farm, especially when he could work with the cattle and sheep. His dream was to become a large animal veterinarian. In high school, he was active in football, basketball and track, where he threw the shotput and discus. He graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1968.
He attended the University of Idaho, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.. During college, he was a hasher for the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, where he met a beautiful girl from Buhl. He and Genny Popplewell were married the summer following graduation in 1972. They were later divorced.Vaughn earned his masters degree in veterinary science from the University of Idaho in 1974. Rather than attending Veterinary graduate school, he began working for the Vet Science Department at Washington State University, where he worked in research for nearly 40 years. While there, one of his favorite research projects was working on a cure for inoperable brain tumors. The research was done with dogs. He traveled to Long Island, New York many times where radiation treatments were administered on the dogs.Vaughn loved the outdoors, spending time hunting and fishing whenever possible. One of his favorite memories was going deep sea fishing in Alaska, a trip he hoped to take again with his brother and nephews. Another of his life’s highlights was when he was able to travel to Russia on a three month missions trip. He always had a heart for the Russian people.During his summer vacation, he often came home to help out for a couple weeks on the farm. He loved his Mom’s home cooking, especially if it included homemade ice cream for dessert. Vaughn lived most of his adult life in Pullman, Washington. He was an active member of the Living Faith Fellowship church where he made many lifelong friends. After retirement, he moved to Spokane where he remained active in several ministries, The Healing Room, being one of his passions. He had a strong faith in God, and loved praying for others to be healed.Vaughn is survived by his sister, Mitzie (Dave) Tillstrom, of Damascus, Or, and brother Bill (Karen) Sweet of Twin Falls, along with 3 nieces, and two nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferris and Mary Anne Sweet. If you’d like to give a memorial in Vaughn’s memory, the family suggests sending your gift toLiving Faith Fellowship, 1035 S Grand Ave, Pullman, Wa 99163.Remember a fond memory of Vaughn next time you have a dish of ice cream.
