Born May 24, 1920 in Buhler, Kansas to Cornelius and Sarah Friesen, Selma (Sam) followed her sister, Ester, to California in 1940, where she met and married her first husband, William H. Lonskey. After William’s death, she married John B. Royce in 1961. They lived in Cypress, California until moving their family to Twin Falls, Idaho in 1971. Despite working for much of her married life, Sam devoted herself to family. Unselfish in her dedication, she took great pride and infinite joy in maintaining her home as a loving and supportive environment for not only her own family, but for so many she welcomed into her extended family of friends and loved ones over the years. There was always room for one more at Sam’s dinner table. She was a fun loving, generous and genuinely happy soul who worked hard, appreciated all she had and rarely wanted for more. She was happiest surrounded by those she loved. Fittingly, Sam passed away peacefully at her home with her loved ones at her side. Her memory will warm our hearts always. Sam’s family invites all who loved her to attend the Twin Falls memorial service if they are able, enjoy each other’s company and share in our memories of a very special person who touched our souls. She loved her snacks, so please join family and friends for an informal reception immediately following the memorial services at 6:30 pm, Thursday, July 21st at Rosenau Funeral Home. Graveside services will occur at Forest Lawn, Cypress, CA, on Tuesday, July 26th at 2:30 pm. Survived by: Her husband John B. Royce, sisters Ester and Fern, children Gary, Cheryl, Cindy, Kathy, John and Seana, and twenty three grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Family and friends are encouraged to share their thoughts and memories at www.rosenaufuneralhome.com
