Leroy (Roy) Youngstrom was born November 15, 1946, in American Falls, Idaho. He passed away April 2, 2016, in Twin Falls due to diabetes complications. His parents, Woodrow (Woody) Youngstrom and Marcia Louannie Hammon Youngstrom had moved to the Aberdeen, Idaho, area for work after World War II. Roy went to K-12 school in Aberdeen graduating from high school in 1965. As he grew up on the dairy farm, he learned a strong work ethic from his parents.
He had several careers during his life. He attended barber school in Boise and was then a barber in Idaho Falls. He returned home to work on the farm with his father and brother, Lyle Youngstrom. To add to the income he also worked in Western Family Potato Processing plant and when it was sold to the Simplot Company he continued to work on the farm and in the plant on maintenance. In the 1980s He left the farm to work only in the plant. Then in 1984 he began to also work with Idaho Fish and Game. In 1992 he returned to ISU and graduated with an Associate in Computer and Business Technology. He used this new skill in Bozeman, Montana, and Twin Falls, Idaho. Managing a car wash for six years in Twin Falls fit Roy’s work ethic and mechanical ability. His final career before retirement was as a school custodian in the Twin Falls School District. He retired in January of 2011.
In 1975 he married Annelise Pederson Burton. To them a son, Brian Leroy Youngstrom, was born October 14, 1977. They divorced in 1983.
In December, 1984, he married Georgiann Kae Singley Gauer. To that union Georgiann brought two daughters, Cheryl and Joy, which Roy adopted one year later.
Besides Georgiann, Roy’s two loves were fishing and Boy Scouts. He would go fishing to “relax”, it didn’t matter if he caught any fish. He was associated with Boy Scouts for about 35 years holding a variety of positions in Aberdeen, Idaho, Bozeman, Montana, and Twin Falls, Idaho. Some of his proudest moments were when one of his “boys” received the rank of Eagle.
Roy is survived by his wife, Georgiann Youngstrom; his children, Cheryl Singley, Brian Youngstrom (Marci), and Joy Boekweg (Leland); his mother, Louannie Youngstrom; his brother, Lyle Youngstrom (Debbie); an aunt, Christina Casper; three grandchildren, Kale, Brennen, and Ainsley Boekweg; and many, many cousins as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Youngstrom, and a number of aunts and uncles.
