Robert Tickner

October 2, 1933 — December 11, 2015

Robert “Bob” Frank Tickner passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at home on December 11, 2015. Bob was born October 2, 1933, in Rawlins, Wyoming, to Frank and Flora Tickner. While growing up, his family lived in Wyoming, Buhl (Idaho) and finally settled in Twin Falls. He was an accomplished high school athlete and graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1951. He met and married his wife Colleen in Buhl; they lived and raised their family in Twin Falls. Intending to become an engineer, a life-changing illness brought physical challenges that led Bob down completely different pathways. He worked as a state meat inspector and at the Rogerson Hotel to support his family as he completed a degree in education. He received both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Education from Idaho State University. His passion for education touched the lives of many. Both inside and outside of the classroom, he inspired and guided countless third and sixth graders throughout his 30 years as a highly respected educator at Washington, Sawtooth and Perrine elementary schools. He also acted as a mentor to numerous faculty and was selected to chair the Teacher Corps while working on his Master’s degree. He was an avid supporter of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and other extracurricular activities. Even after they all graduated, he continued to support Twin Falls sports and could often be found front-and-center at high school basketball games. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed spending more time with his family and friends, working on crossword puzzles, engaging in intellectual debates, and embarking on camping trips to Redfish Lake and the Oregon coast with Colleen and their beloved dogs.Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sister (Kathleen Walker). He will be deeply missed by his devoted and loving wife of 61 years Colleen, his children Terry (Carolyn), Caryl (Glenn), Tim (Leslie), and Robyn, as well as grandchildren Allyson (Mark) Guran, Taryn Schmidt, Tyson Tickner, Trey Tickner, and Sam Filing and one great-grandchild Vayda Guran. He is also survived by a brother Raymond (Dora Jane) of Texas.A memorial service honoring Bob will be held on Friday, December 18, at 2:00 p.m. at Rosenau Funeral Home, 2826 Addison Ave. East. Immediately following the service, the family invites all to celebrate and share memories of Bob’s life at an informal reception at the Rosenau community room.
