Robert James Alworth November 27, 1942-March 30, 2013 Robert “Bob” Alworth, 70, a longtime resident of Dietrich, Idaho, passed away March 30 at St. Luke's Hospital in Twin Falls from complications resulting from a fall. Bob was born in Twin Falls to Thomas Frank Alworth and Dorothy Doss Alworth and grew up on a farm one mile from Curry Junction. He graduated from Union School, Twin Falls High School, class of 1960, and from Iowa State University with an Associate Degree in Agriculture. From 1967 through1971 he served in the U. S. Army, serving in Viet Nam from November, 1969 through September, 1971. He rose to the rank of Captain in the U. S. Army and received two bronze stars for his service in Viet Nam. From 1972 through 1986 he was the owner operator of a farm in Dietrich and from 1987 through 1989 he as a superintendent/foreman for Anderson Asphalt Paving of Bellevue, ID. He was a project engineer for Forsgren Engineering for the construction of the Dietrich Municipal Water System from October, 1992 through April, 1993. In 1990 he began working for the U. S Forest Service, Sawtooth National Forest, Maintenance Crew and Engineering Group, in Twin Falls, initially as a part time employee and then as a full time employee; in 1999 he was appointed as an engineering technician in the U. S Forest Service, a position he held until his retirement in 2009. During his career with the U. S. Forest Service, Sawtooth National Forest, he received several Certificates of Appreciation and of Merit for outstanding service. In 2008 he was elected a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Bob was also a member of the American Legion and the Elks Club. Bob is survived by one son, Thomas Alworth of Shoshone, ID, a brother, William Alworth, Athens, GA, two sisters, Anne Grunden, Federal Way, WA, and Judie House, Twin Falls, ID, a nephew, Brian Alworth, Cape Giradeau, MO, and six nieces, Jennifer Martin, Naples, Italy, Ginger McHenry, West Linn, OR, Suzie House, Twin Falls, ID, Hollie House, Twin Falls, ID, Andrea Alworth, Athens, GA, and Leanne Alworth, Athens, GA. Bob Alworth was an avid reader who especially enjoyed reading the western tales of Louis L'Amour. A memorial service will be held on Friday April 5, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Christ Episcopal Church in Shoshone. The family requests that donations in his name be made to any of the several groups engaged in helping U. S. military personnel. Arrangements are under the direction of Dustin Godfrey and the staff at Rosenau Funeral Home.
