Richard W. Ryall

Twin Falls. On Wednesday September 12, 2012 we said goodbye to a wonderful husband, father, grandpa and friend. Dick completed his courageous battle against a host of ailments, including Parkinson’s Disease and bladder cancer. He fought hard and claimed his final victory surrounded by his family. He will be lovingly missed and never forgotten. Dick was born on August 1, 1930 in Gloversville, NY to Denis Ryall and Helen Wessendorf Ryall. He was a member of the Gloversville Methodist Church. During his high school years he played in the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corp and worked for Charlie Finkle in Charlie’s neighborhood store. In 1951, Dick joined the United States Air Force saying goodbye to the beautiful Northeast then headed Southwest to Texas for his military training. He was then stationed briefly in Minneapolis before landing at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho where he met his beautiful bride Doris at a servicemen’s dance sponsored by the YMCA. Dick and Doris were married in Boise, Idaho on April 19, 1952 where Dick was hosting a radio show at KIDO in Boise along with his military duties. The couple’s first child, Venessa was born during this time. They lived happily in Boise until Dick was discharged from active military duty in October of 1953 and joined the Air Force Reserves. A great opportunity to follow his dream of working in radio broadcasting opened up to him, so the young family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho where their other three children were born, Denis, Kathleen and Helen. He greatly enjoyed working as an announcer for KEEP radio for 2 years. In 1955 Dick went to work for KTIFI radio as their early morning announcer, he worked his way up the ladder at the station starting out in sales and then becoming the station’s general manager. He worked for KTFI for the next 30 years. Dick retired from KTFI in 1985, but being one who loved the challenge of working he decided to come out of retirement and go to work for King Video Cable/Cable One in 1986 doing sales and voice over’s for local television commercials. Dick worked another 10 years before retiring this time, for good. Dick was an active member of the Twin Falls United Methodist Church. He graduated from CSI (College of Southern Idaho) in 1984 and was proud to serve on the Twin Falls School Board for seven years. He loved music and especially enjoyed playing his drums. Dick drummed with the Twin Falls City Band for 20 years; he also played with the Northside Players, The Dilettantes, Bud Teasley’s Dance Band and the College of Southern Idaho Stage Band. Dick had a fondness and fascination for trains, planes and automobiles. He was the guy to go to for any questions concerning any of the above! Dick spent many happy hours with his close friends, Ron Rios (Johnstown, NY) and Jim Willis (Twin Falls, ID) watching, learning about and admiring trains. . Dick and Doris spent many happy retirement years traveling, cruising, camping with their trailer, taking bus tours, just enjoying life, each other, their children and grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Denis and Helen Ryall, daughter Venessa Ryall Fisher and grandson Gabriel Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris, his children, Denis Ryall and wife Dru (Meridian, ID), Kathleen Templeton and husband Steve (Federal Way, WA), Helen Ryall and Paula Simerl y (Twin Falls, ID), Mike Fisher, daughter Venessa's husband (Twin Falls, ID) grandchildren, Nicholas Templeton (Burien, WA), Nathan Templeton and wife Amanda (Travis AFB, CA), Matthew Neville (Twin Falls, ID), Anna Neville (Twin Falls, ID), Amy Jensen (Boise, ID), Amanda Fisher Pikas (Herndon, VA), Geoff Fisher (Fussa, Toyko) and great grandchildren Ethan and James Templeton (Travis AFB, CA) , Ethan and Evan Pikas (Herndon, VA) and Makenzie and Katie Fisher (Fussa, Toyko). Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Rosenau Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Lineberry officiating. A viewing will be held from 6-8 pm, Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Rosenau Funeral. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
