Raymond Edward Butler, 94, was born January 13, 1922, in Kimberly, ID, to Ralph and Ola Butler. He died March 26, 2016, at St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center, Twin Falls, ID. His body could no longer keep up with his determination to live.
He was a rancher except for the 3 years, 1 month, and 4 days (as he would tell you) that he served in the Army/ Air Corp during WWII. The majority of time he was stationed in Gila Bend, AZ. He married Esther Shewmaker in Wickenburg, AZ, on January 1, 1944. They experienced the ups and downs of married life for 71 years.
Raymond served 6 years as Trustee for Hansen School District 415 from 1964-1970, and 14 years as a Director of Southern Idaho Production Credit Association from 1969-1983. He received Recognition of Outstanding Conservation Achievement in Advancing the Rock Creek Water Program Goals of Reduced Water Pollution in 1988 from the Snake River and Twin Falls Soil Conservation Districts. He was awarded a plaque in recognition of Outstanding Service for the Promotion and General Welfare of the Livestock and Agriculture Industry of Southern Idaho in 1989. The Magic Valley Cattlemen's Association presented Raymond and Esther with the "Million Miles in the Saddle Award" in 1998 for their "extraordinary service and dedication to the Industry throughout the years."
He is survived by his sister, Shirley Goold, of Twin Falls; 3 children, Terry, Dennis and Renee Butler; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Raymond will be buried next to Esther, who preceded him in death on Aug 18, 2015, in a family graveside service on April 15, 2016 at 3:30 pm at Sunset Memorial Park, Twin Falls.
He will be remembered at a gathering held at Rosenau Funeral Home Community Room, 2826 Addison Ave E, Twin Falls, ID, on Saturday, April 16, 2016, from 12:00-2:00 pm. Since Raymond enjoyed feeding his friends and relatives, his favorite restaurant, The Depot Grill, will be catering. Arrangements are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.
