R. Gayle Turner

July 18, 1929 — November 10, 2015

Gayle Turner passed away November 10, 2015 at Twin Falls, Idaho of causes incident to age. She was born July 18, 1929, in Marion, Idaho to Rita Martella Smith and George Grant Severe. Later Rita married Raddon Layton. She was raised by her grandparents, John Shields Smith and Annie Loretta Nelson Smith. Because of that, her two uncles and four aunts were more like brothers and sisters. She is survived by her aunt Thelma Robinson. Gayle graduated from Oakley High School where she was cheerleader for three years and in several school organizations. She worked hard with her family on the farm in Marion, until they moved into Oakley. She married David Grant Turner February 7, 1948 in Elko, Nevada. Grant preceded her in death in 2009. They have three children Randy Turner (DeEtte) of Vancouver, Washington, Cindy Hammons of Twin Falls, and Tracy Turner (Bob) of Seattle, Washington. They also have three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Grant’s employment with Idaho Power Company took them to Gooding, Hazelton, and then Twin Falls. Gayle worked as a telephone operator early in their married life, as a dress shop clerk, and at Crowley Drug. However, she spent most of her time as a full-time homemaker and mother. She enjoyed good music from Glen Miller to Frank Sinatra. She and Grant loved to dance and never passed up a chance to go dancing. Gayle was an accomplished artist. Ceramics were her early specialty, but for many years she cultivated her oil painting talent. Her paintings have adorned the homes of family and friends and have been a treasure to all. Her talent in the kitchen was a delight to the entire family and her friends. She loved large, beautiful Christmas trees. The roses at their Hazelton home were a bright spot in the entire neighborhood. The family treasures the memories of outings to Easley Hot Springs north of Ketchum and the vacations to the cabin in the Seafoam area above Stanley. Those were times when we grew close as a family and enjoyed discovering the beautiful Idaho forests. Special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at the Cenoma House Assisted Living, Dr. Ficklin, and Visions Hospice. A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sunset Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.
