Paul passed away November 7, 2023,15 days short of his 95th birthday. In January 2023 Paul
moved to Seasons Assisted Living in Farr West Utah, relocating there after over 30 years in
Twin Falls, Idaho.
Born in Rupert, Idaho, to Horace F. and Pearl B. (Spears) Short. Paul had two sisters, Mable
(Charles) and Retha (Lawson) and nine brothers, Ray, Ralph, Roy, Reid, Earl, Verl, Hugh,
Calvin and Alvin.
He married Olive Rice of Minidoka, Idaho. They raised three children, Dana (Powers), Paul L.
(Bim) and Stan. They divorced in 1981. In 1986 Paul married Barbara Rice of Burley, Idaho and
gained two daughters, Terri Pooler and Brenda Rice of Twin Falls Idaho.
After finishing high school in Rupert, Paul was drafted into the US Army and served in Germany.
Upon his discharge, he returned to Rupert and worked several jobs before attending Idaho
State and Utah State universities, receiving his civil engineering degree. After graduation, Paul
took a job with the Idaho State Highway Department. In 1964 Paul began a career with the US
Forest Service which took him to St. Anthony Idaho, Ogden Utah and Bishop California. Paul
was proud of his career. Paul co-owned a sporting goods store with his good friend Dick Ryan.
After retiring from the US Forest service and selling the sporting goods store, Paul and Barbara
moved to Twin Falls, Idaho.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents, his first wife, Olive, his daughter
Brenda Rice and all of his 11 siblings. Paul is survived by four children: Dana Powers,
Harrisville Utah, Paul (Joni) Short, Plain City Utah, Stan (Linda) Short,Bloomington Illinois, Terri
(Rod) Pooler, Twin Falls Idaho and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews
and a few good friends.
A brief graveside service will be held November 16, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.at Sunset Memorial Park,
2296 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho. Arrangements are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.
