Myra Kortus

Myra Mae (Groen) Kortus was born to William and Mamie Groen in Hull, North Dakota on September 1, 1936. When she was a young girl, they moved the family to Whatcom County, Washington. In 1954 she married Gerrit Kortus in Lynden, Washington. The couple had four children; Sharon (Roger) Gentert of Wendell, Idaho; Gary (Valerie) Kortus of Loveland, Colorado; Susan (Michael) Hibma of Sedro Woolley, Washington; Roy (Sally) Kortus of Eureka, California. Myra is the beloved grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth (Groen) Nieuwsma of Nacogdoches, Texas.

Myra was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, grandson Jeffery Kortus and in 1989, her husband Gerrit Kortus. She lived her final years in Twin Falls, Idaho where she passed peacefully on March 12, 2025.

“My only comfort in life and death is I am not my own but belong to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.”

The family would also like to acknowledge the love and care shown by the wonderful staff at Brookdale Assisted Living and Visions Hospice.

A service will be held at the Twin Falls Reformed Church – 1631 Grandview Dr. N. in Twin Falls, Idaho at 10:00 a.m. on April 12, 2025. Graveside service will be at Union Cemetery in Sedro Woolley, WA at 1:00 p.m. on May 30, 2025.
