Miles “Smokey” Whalen King passed away May 26, 2024, at his daughters’ home in Murtaugh, he was 90 years old. Smokey was born August 24, 1933, in Cameron, Missouri to Verl Orvis King and Myrtle Reve (Streeter) King. He was the oldest of 7 children, Myla Rosetta, Jerry Lee, John Henry, Deanna Jean, Jackie Eugene, and Samuel “Butch” Alfred.
He met the love of his life, Jane Butterworth, during the summer of 1951, and they were married April 19, 1952, in Elko, Nev., and resided in Twin Falls. While living in Twin Falls, they were blessed with two children, son, Rod, and daughter, Connie. In 1955, the family moved to northern California, where Smokey worked in a redwood sawmill. While living in California, they were once again blessed with a daughter, Becky. Shortly thereafter, they returned to the Magic Valley.
The family was sealed together for time and all eternity on March 28, 1962. They settled in Murtaugh, where Smokey farmed and did carpentry work. Smokey was a member of the LDS Church, where he served in many callings including the Bishopric. Smokey and Jane served for seven years as temple workers in the Boise Idaho Temple.
Smokey is survived by his children, Rod (Marilyn) King of Oakley, Idaho, Connie (Jack) Hurd of Murtaugh, Idaho, and Becky (Clyde) Traughber of Jerome, Idaho; brothers Jerry (Doris) King and Butch (Susan) King, sisters Myla Cummins and Deanna Schroeder, sister-in-law Sandy (John) King; nine grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way. Smokey was preceded in death by his wife Jane; father, Verl; mother, Myrtle; sister Jackie; brother John; brother-in-law Rich Schroeder; father and mother-in-law, Bob and Sylvia Compton; two great-granddaughters, Kassidy Ann, and Kayla Jane Hurd.
