Merle Gene Lierman

October 18, 1940 — February 18, 2025

Kimberly

Merle Gene Lierman, 84, of Kimberly, ID, was called home to the Lord February 18, 2025. He was born October 18, 1940, in Twin Falls, ID, to Arthur and Dorthy Lierman. Merle was a man of strength, love, and wisdom, with a heart as big as his hands, standing 6'1" tall, and always ready to lend both physical strength and moral guidance.

Merle married the love of his life, Bette Lee Sharp, of Filer, ID, on November 12, 1961. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, hard work, and love. Merle was a dedicated farmer, working over a thousand acres with unwavering commitment. He not only ran a successful farm, but also imparted the importance of discipline and hard work to his children, often calling them his "hired hands." He had a unique way of teaching—whether it was insisting on using their brains to solve problems, or pulling their ears during a sermon if they weren’t paying attention (Corey’s famous cauliflower ears were a testament to that!). His children learned valuable lessons about perseverance, responsibility, and the importance of family.

Merle’s love for life was contagious. He had a joyful spirit, always quick with a joke or a story. His home was a refuge for many, often becoming a haven for wayward kids who needed a place to belong. He was deeply involved in his community and could often be found lending a hand to anyone in need. He had a special bond with everyone he met—whether it was his close friends, family, or those he encountered. He was awarded multiple Bean Growers Awards through Sun Seed.

Outside of farming, Merle was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to enjoy the outdoors with his family by fly fishing, camping, snow skiing, and golfing. He and Bette spent many winters in Yuma, AZ, full of adventure and fun, just as his summers were.

A man who never tired of studying God's Word, Merle's unwavering faith was a guiding light for his family. He believed in hard work, discipline, faith, and love, all while being a man who could make you laugh even when times were tough. His family was his greatest joy, and his love and support never wavered.

Merle was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and daughter. He is survived by his loving wife Bette, his children Shane (Jeannie), Travis (Geri), Regina “Gina” (Trevor), Corey (Tyanna), and 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren with 2 on the way followed by numerous friends and extended family who will carry his memory in their hearts.

Merle Gene Lierman’s legacy is one of love, laughter, faith, and a life well-lived. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
