Mary Louise Krumm

February 21, 1937 — November 9, 2012

Mary Louise Krumm passed away at her home on Friday, November 9, 2012, surrounded by her family. Mary was 75 years old and residing in Twin Falls. On February 21, 1937, Mary was born to Candido and Gloria Elorriaga in Wendell, Idaho. She spent her childhood in Hagerman, where her father ran a sheep outfit. Mary was known to be quite ornery as a young girl, and she used her toughness to her advantage when playing with her siblings and neighbors. It was not uncommon for Mary to be involved in pranks or scuffles around her neighborhood. Her stubbornness shone when she would only let her mother comb her hair once a week—on Sundays. Mary was a standout student and athlete at Hagerman High School, where she graduated in 1955. She led her peers as the Student Body President and represented her school at the American Legion Auxiliary Idaho Girls State. Mary showed her athletic talent and competitiveness on the basketball court. In the fall of 1955, she began taking courses at the Twin Falls Business College. Mary awaited the return of her high school sweetheart, Dean Krumm, who served in the United States Army until 1959. They were married in Elko, Nevada, on August 4, 1959. Dean and Mary first lived together in Pocatello, where Dean worked as a meter reader for the Idaho Power Company. Mary became a mother in 1960, when their daughter Tammy was born. Their son, Gary, was born in 1963. The Krumm family established a permanent home in Twin Falls in 1964. Mary dedicated herself to caring for the people she loved. Her children and husband were clearly her pride and joy. She was a faithful supporter of every one of their academic, athletic, and career activities. Mary was a talented homemaker—preparing delicious meals and snacks, maintaining a clean and cozy home, and ensuring a stable and loving environment for her family. Later on, she especially treasured the time she spent playing with her grandchildren, Amber and Ryan, and watching them grow up. Mary showed compassion to numerous elderly family members and neighbors. She worked for several years at the Twin Falls County Fair in the Home Arts building. Mary also enjoyed working on her yard and in her flowerbeds. Mary’s knowledge of athletics was evident, as she avidly followed sports of every kind on television and in the newspaper. Cats held a special place in her heart. She loved many of her own cats and would regularly feed and welcome neighborhood cats into her home. Mary approached life with a feisty, hard-working attitude and made a lasting impact on her family, friends, and neighbors with her heart of gold. As a mother and grandmother, she loved us unconditionally and often put our needs ahead of her own. She is certainly surrounded by joy and peace as she is now reunited with her husband in heaven. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, John and Ray Elorriaga; and her husband, Dean. She is survived by her daughter, Tammy (Ken) Petersen; her son, Gary Krumm; her grandchildren Amber and Ryan Petersen; and her sister, Glorianne Cortabitarte. Our family would like to extend a special note of thanks to the caring staff of Encompass Home Health & Hospice. At Mary’s request, a public graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 16, at the Hagerman Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to attend a luncheon at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church immediately following the burial. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation in Mary’s name, please consider the Hagerman Alumni Association or the Gooding Basque Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Kevin Rosenau of Rosenau Funeral Home.
