Mary Akkerman, 77, of Twin Falls, died Sunday, July 26 after an extended illness. Born in Earlville, Iowa on October 4, 1937 to Roy and Marie March, Mary graduated from high school in Warren, Illinois and worked for several years in Illinois and Wisconsin before her marriage to Richard J. Akkerman in 1961. Mary and Dick had two sons and made their home in Illinois, Montana, and South Dakota before moving to Twin Falls in 1973 where they entered the real estate profession. Mary retired from American Real Estate and Appraisal in 2002. She was known by her friends and family for her long coffee conversations and her natural creative abilities.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband in 1978, her father in 1975, and her mother in 1998. She is survived by her sons Jay (Kim) of Nampa and Mark of Boise; her grandsons Stanford (Stephanie), Justin, and Michael of Boise; her granddaughters Lauren, Hailey, and Parker of Nampa; her sister Bev (Bob) Schiess of Freeport, Illinois; her brothers Ron (Phyllis) March of Dyersville, Iowa and Bob (Trudy) March of Sarasota, Florida; and by many nephews and nieces.
Mary’s cremains will be interred in the Twin Falls Cemetery following a graveside service at 10:30 on Friday morning, July 31. Dr. Dana Hicks will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends a donation in Mary’s memory to either Idaho Public Television or the Akkerman Endowed Student Scholarship at Northwest Nazarene University.
