Marta LeMoyne, who loved her family so deeply, passed away at her home on April 11, 2025 after a courageously hard-fought battle with cancer.
Marta was born on January 29, 1955 in Burley, Idaho. At the age of three, she and her sister Terry were adopted by O.R. “Hap” and Thelma Gates.
Growing up in Gooding, Idaho horses became a huge part of her life; winning her first class at the age of 4 and going on to being the High School Girls All Around Champion in 1970. She qualified for the National High School Finals Rodeo three years in a row.
She attended Gooding High School and Filer High School, graduating in 1973. After high school, she attended Salt Lake City College of Medical and Dental Assistant to become a dental assistant.
In 1974 she married Mike Brown. In 1978, Marta's life as a mom began with the birth of her son Sean and was fulfilled with the birth of her daughter Kayla in 1980. She was always there for anything that Sean and Kayla were involved in. She and Mike divorced but remained friends throughout her life.
In 1990 fate and the real estate business brought her high school sweetheart, Henri LeMoyne, back into her life. Henri and Marta were married in 1990 and built a beautiful home and life in Buhl, Idaho. They spent many hours traveling around the country (usually on a back road so Henri could check out farms along the way). Golf became a big part of their lives; whether playing chapmans as a couple or competing individually. She was a force to be reckoned with on the golf course; winning the Senior Club Championship at Jerome Country Club and also Clear Lake Country Club. It was on the golf course where many friendships were formed.
Marta’s favorite role, GRANDMA, began in 2004 with the birth of her first grandson Ryne, followed by Kyler in 2006, Liam in 2009, and completed in 2012 with the birth of her only granddaughter Maggie. She was and always will be their #1 fan; often heard yelling at refs and coaches if she thought they weren’t being fair to her grandkids!
In 2004, Henri and Marta purchased a cabin in Stanley, ID. The family cabin was a place where she loved to go with Henri, Sean, Kayla and their families. The yearly trips with the grandkids always included time spent at Redfish Lake playing in the sand and paddling around the lake, ice cream at Elk Mountain Resort and making s'mores around the campfire.
In 2012, Marta and Henri became “Snowbirds” in Surprise, Arizona. She loved the warm weather, golf, and mostly importantly the great friendships she made. Her time spent there was some of her most cherished memories.
Marta worked for several years as a closing agent at TitleFact, meeting many lifelong friends.
She was diagnosed with small cell carcinoma in 2022; fighting it head on. She only missed 1 or 2 of her grandkids basketball games through her chemo and radiation treatments.
Marta was one who didn’t know a stranger and once you were friends, you held a special place in her heart. She will be forever missed, but she will live on through all of the wonderful memories we have.
She is preceded in death by her parents: “Hap” Gates and Thelma Gates, her siblings: Phyllis, Carol, Gary, Ron, Sharon, Joyce, and Terry, father-in-law Harry LeMoyne and many treasured aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is survived by her loving husband Henri, her son Sean (Mindy) Brown, her daughter Kayla (Craig) Kelly and her dear grandchildren Ryne and Kyler Kelly, Liam and Maggie Brown, her sister Jeannie McCreary and several nieces and nephews.
Per Marta’s request, we ask that any donations be made to Primary Children’s Hospital; a cause that she held very dear to her heart.
Our family would like to thank the amazing doctors and nurses at St. Luke's Cancer Institute, St. Luke's IMCU, and the wonderful nurses from Visions Hospice. Their loving care of our sweet Marta is something that meant the world to our family.
A private family memorial service will be held the morning of April 16th under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 6 p.m. that evening at the Jerome Country Club. Please bring fun stories to share.
