Larry Olson Smith, 75, of Twin Falls, passed away Wednesday, September 21st, 2016.
Larry was born, at home, in Fordyce, Arkansas on March 26th, 1941. Larry was raised and educated in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He spent one year at Monticello University before enlisting in the Army Reserves where he spent his next 4 years. Following an honorable discharge from the reserves he began his career in auto body repair. He started in this field working with his, soon to be, father-in-law.
Larry married Bobbie Spurlock on October 9th, 1961. To this union were born 4 children. Shelly was born October 27th, 1962 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Sheryl was born November 13th, 1965 in Memphis, Tennessee, Larry Jr. was born September 7th, 1971 in Twin Falls, Idaho but passed away two days after birth, Butch was born December 15th, 1973 in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Larry opened his own auto body shop in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 1965 where he quickly out-grew his first shop. He out-grew his next two shops as well which prompted his move out west to Buhl, Idaho in 1970. Larry owned and operated Smith Paint & Body shop for over 20 years. Larry sold his business to Joe Silva and spent his next chapter in life in Real Estate, working for several real estate agencies throughout the Magic Valley. Larry finally decided to hang up his "working" shoes around 2005 and began his life of retirement. Retirement to Larry meant still working out in his yard or garden from sunup to sundown most days.
One of Larry's biggest passions was his dogs, his boxers. You rarely saw Larry without one of his boxers near his side, they were truly his pride and joy. From his homemade rack on his ATV to his beautiful red Corvette, he would provide a way for a boxer to accompany him at all times.
Larry is survived by Bobbie Smith of Twin Falls, his children: Shelly (Jay) Fort of Twin Falls, Idaho, Sheryl (Don Davis) Burdett of Kimberly, Idaho, and Butch (Rikki) Smith of Twin Falls, Idaho. He leaves behind two sisters and a brother : Sharon (Chuck) Sullivan of Texas, Kristie (Steve) Genheimer of Oklahoma, Jay (Gina) Smith of Texas.
Larry was preceded in death by both his parents, SJ and Mary Smith of Arkansas, his brother Dr. SJ "Joe" Smith of Wells, Nevada and an infant son of Buhl, Idaho.
Larry loved his dogs, his Red corvette, his kids, and Boise State football. But his dogs were his world, the surviving dogs will surely miss him and his "special" treats he would share with them.
Services will be held 11am on Monday, October 10, 2016 at Rosenau Funeral Home. Family and friends are encouraged to share their memories at www.rosenaufuneralhome.com.
