Kathy Lyn Lockwood
Obituary
March 9, 1953- May 17, 2023
Kathy Lyn Lockwood, our beloved sister, aunt godmother, and friend was peacefully called home to her Heavenly Father May 17, 2023 from her home in Hazelton, ID.
Kathy was the fourth of six children born to Eugene and Elaine Lockwood on March 9, 1953 in Twin Falls, Idaho. Her two older sisters welcomed this beautiful baby with golden curls. Her early years were happily spent playing with her animals and her siblings she attended school in the Hansen School District graduating in 1971. After graduation, she attended the nursing program at CSI before contracting lupus and having to drop her studies. She continued to battle lupus for the rest of her life. She never complained, and she did not let it get her down. She just changed course and worked several different kinds of jobs as her health would permit. She had a passion for caregiving. She worked as a CNA, addiction recovery counselor and in later years took great care of her older sister and her health declined.
Soon after she graduated, Kathy met the love of her life, Mark Schwarz, on a blind date, and they enjoyed over 45 years of companionship. They enjoyed many years of camping with family and friends. Every summer they were on the river whitewater rafting. Mark was a river guide, and Kathy was right there with him even though she didn’t know how to swim! In later years they became avid CSI fans. They held season tickets to basketball, and when softball came to CSI they were hooked. They seldom missed a softball game-home or away. She loved it and had many stories to tell about their adventures. She and Mark found their home-away-from-home in Black Canyon City, AZ during the winter months. They met many friends and explored the area on their 4-wheeler. She loved the warmth of the people and the air. Soon after returning home from their last trip, Mark’s health seriously declined, and she became his loving caregiver. This last winter, she made her trip to Arizona solo with her dog Missy Mae by her side.
Kathy was a devout Lutheran and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. She found great comfort and joy in the teachings and in the people of her congregation. She loved the Lord deeply.
Kathy inherited her strength of conviction in right and wrong from her lineage. She was always the first to stand up for the rights of the underdog, and wasn’t afraid to voice her opinion. She was loved for her independence and strength of will to make the best of any situation that came her way. She overcame many trials and tribulations throughout her life with determination, joy, and independence. We will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry; her dad and mom, her sister, Karen; and her life-long companion, Mark. She is survived by her sister Karol (Larry) Wright formerly of Kimberly, Brother Dave (Cheryl) Lockwood of Jerome, and brother Jerry (Gwenda) Lockwood of Kimberly as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
