John Kent Merell

 Born in Toledo, Ohio, John married Patricia Merell in Dec. 1955. They had two children, Caron and Johnny. 

 At the age of 17, John joined the Airforce and served for 35 years. He was a member of VFW Post #6306 in Golden Shores. AZ, as well as, a member of the Elk’s Club #1608 in Needles, CA.

 John started his own electronics business in the high desert area of Hesperia, CA known as Mer -Mar Inc. He ran this business for 47 years.

 John also opened a grocery store in Topock/Golden Shores in 1984 which still serves the community, known as the Golden Shores General Store.

 John has been involved in the community for over 40 years. He was a co-founder of the Golden Shores Chamber of Commerce, member of the Golden Shores Community Baptist Church and the Civic Association. He, along with Phil Villamor & Ron Wilson were instrumental in purchasing the first printer for the Topock Topics. .

 John’s hobbies were fishing, golfing, taking cruises, and traveling in his Airstream with friends. In fact it was with his Airstream club that he met his current wife Myrna, whom he married on July 7, 2012. He also liked playing the stock market. The family called him the Financial Wizard!

 John is survived by his wonderful wife, Myrna Merell, daughter, Caron Brinkley (Chuck), his stepdaughter, Tonya Devine (Tim), his stepdaughter, Robyn Wentz (Marty). Also, Caron’s daughters, Christi Tutty and Ashley Greenhalgh, and Johnny’s children Shelby and Justin Merell, and five Great Grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 29, 2024 at 2pm at the Kingdom Church, 910 Shoshone St E. Twin Falls. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in John’s name to the Kingdom Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.
