James Maughan

July 15, 1943 — September 1, 2024

Twin Falls, ID

With deeply felt love and admiration we celebrate the life of James “Jim” Ralph Maughan at the age of 81. Born in Tooele, Utah on the 15th day of July 1943 to Ralph and Betty Maughan.

Jim spent his childhood in Tooele with his four siblings: Nancy, Milton, David and BettyJo. Graduating from Tooele High School in 1961 and then Utah State University in 1969.

With a drive for challenge, he relocated many times in his life. Living in Logan, Ut and Preston ID until he ventured up to Moses Lake, WA to teach school while starting a family and finding his passion in general contracting. He spent a few years in Canada designing a complex, when his zest for adventure kicked in and he moved to Tonopah, NV where he started his own business Maughan Construction and prospered for many years, all while enjoying hunting, fishing, trap shooting and his passion for firearms and reloading ammunition. In 2011 he was featured in the Trap & Field American Trap Shooting Magazine for Idaho State Singles Champion of the year.

In 2002 Jim relocated his family to Twin Falls, Idaho where he owned and operated Maughan Construction/Magic Valley Home Setters until his retirement in 2021. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in the temple. He loved his callings in the priesthood and primary class. This is where his soul was fed and he felt peace.

Greeting everyone with a pleasant smile and hello. Always wanting to serve others, there wasn’t a room that he entered that didn’t light up & I know his spirit will continue to do so for all his family that he loved so dearly. His love and legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. This world dimmed a bit Sunday, September 1, 2024, a bright humble soul, quietly laid to rest.

Jim is survived by his children: Heidi (Kenny) Konecki, Jim Maughan Jr. (Tonopah NV), Seth Maughan (Eagle ID), Jennifer (Keatan) Irby (Ahsahka ID), Kirk (Alicia) Maughan (Twin Falls ID), 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Jim also held a fatherhood with two of his grandchildren, Halle Walsh and her big brother Chancelor Maughan who was waiting at heaven’s door to welcome his grandfather home. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Betty Maughan, BettyJo Miller Maughan (sister), Ralph VonDohln Maughan (son), Chancelor Clark Maughan (grandson).
