James L. Douglas

James L. "Jay" Douglas passed away July 3, 2016 In Twin Falls. He was born In Gooding Hospital to M.W. "Rusty" & Madeline Mickelsen Douglas. He attended schools in Hazelton . He served as senior class President & graduated in 1949. He joined the Air Force in January 1951 & served in the Korean war Jan. 1952-Nov. 1952 & during that time flew 55 missions. When he returned home he was drafted into minor league baseball by the Chicago Cubs to go to spring training in Stockton Ca.He was a south paw pitcher. He stayed a short time & returned to Hazelton & went into the service station with his Dad, a few years later they bought the school bus's which they owned & operated till they sold them in 2014, their business expanded to a bulk plant, tire store, farm store & storage units. Jay worked there until he retired in 2008, he was still there mentally until his death.He married Joyce Dalrymple April 24,1971, she had 3 children & he loved them. After the marriage & moving into their home they started landscaping the property with fruit trees and a lot of beautiful plants and flowers, especially roses,he loved to work in his yard & at one time had over 100 rose bushes & he could tell you every name. Their home & property was a show place. He was a member of Rupert Elks Lodge for 55 years. He loved people, but his family & friends were most important. The Douglas family bought a cabin in Blaine county near Easley & in his earlier years he loved to spend time there, especially snow mobiling, I later years he enjoyed going to a lot of Valley school athletic events. Jay loved to tell crazy, stupid little jokes that he got from his American League magazine & it didn't matter if he knew you or not. He was an active member of VFW Post 3001, Jerome & the American Legion in Eden. The last couple of years he had a hard time getting around due to extreme back pain, but he would go places where he liked to be. Jay was a wonderful person & those of us who love him will always miss him, Jay had the honor of being awarded the DFC-Distinguised Flying Cross among several others He also kept in touch with guys he served in Korea with & was able to attend many of the reunions they held over the years, the last one being in Palm Springs, Ca. & had the pleasure of having Jaymie, a step grand daughter accompany him on the trip. He is survived by his siblings Shirley Koontz (Ralph), K. Denton (Bob, deceased). Gail Quinn ( Hal, deceased) & Kerm Douglas ( Kay). Step children, Darrel Dalrymple ( Mary Ann), Deanna Magaw (John) & step daughter in law Patty Dalrymple. Several nieces, nephews, also step grand & great grandkids. He was preceeded in death by his parents, wife Joyce in 2009, 2 brothers, many relatives &. stepson Ted. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to VFW Post 3001, Jerome or the American Legion in Eden. Memorial Services will July 8 @ Rosenau Funeral Home in Twin Falls at 12 noon. Graveside service will be held at a later date Hazelton cemetary.
