George J. Denton

September 18, 1924 — August 6, 2012

George Junior Denton , 87, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, August 6. 2012. He was born September 18, 1924 to George W. Denton and Gertrude Puckett Denton in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was a brother to Chester T. Denton and half-brother to Robert W. Trout and Lewis L. Trout. He met the love of his life, Ruth M. DeWald, at a community dance. They married in 1945 prior to George leaving to serve in the Navy Com. Air Pac. Pearl Harbor, Flight Air Wing 14, Seaman First Class. He was given an Honorable Discharge to return home after two years of service because of his ailing father’s health to help on the farm in Filer, Idaho. He farmed several years in Gooding and many years in Twin Falls County. He was the “Beet Grower of the Year” awarded by Amalgamated Sugar Beet Company. He was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed salmon fishing in the Challis area. He enjoyed sharing his love of fishing with his sons and in later years his grandchildren. He was a member of the Hollister community square dancing group and during his retirement he taught line dancing in Twin Falls and Overton, NV. His family and friends were a special part of his life. He taught his family how to enjoy life in many ways: ice skating and building bon fires on Cedar Draw Lake; pulling us on a car hood, behind a tractor, in the snow. George enjoyed following his children and grandchildren in sporting events. He was a member of the Twin Falls Methodist Church following in the foot steps of his grandfather Rev. W. T. Puckett, first Methodist circuit-rider in the Twin Falls tract. He had five children: Carolyn (Joseph) Sturgell, Henry Russell (Marilyn) Denton, Donna (Dennis) Lutz, Peggy (Mark) Schroeder, and Dan (Sonya) Denton. He also was Grandpa to 19 Grandchildren, 37 Great-grandchildren and 2 Great-great-grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents, two half-brothers, one grandson; Lon Schroeder, and two great-grandsons; Caleb Lutz and Trevor Butler. We wish to thank all the staff at Wynwood Assisted Living Center for making Dad’s last year a comfortable time. Thanks to Idaho Home Health and Hospice for the extra care and support they provide. Memorial gifts may be given to Idaho Home Health and Hospice of Twin Falls. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 11, at Rosenau Funeral Home in Twin Falls. A private grave-side burial will be held prior to the service. Family and friends may share memories at www.rosenaufuneralhome.com
