Gerald Gene Ruhter passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Cedar Draw Assisted Living in Filer, Idaho. Gene was born March 12, 1928, to Fred and Rebecca Ruhter in Roseland, Nebraska. Gene, 3 of his brothers and his sister were baptized at home on December 16, 1934. The family moved to Jerome, Idaho in 1937. He was confirmed in his Lutheran faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Jerome, on May 25, 1941. He graduated from Jerome High School in 1945. On June 18, 1950 he married Gladys Persigehl at the Clover Trinity Lutheran Church. They lived and farmed on Pole Line Road until moving into town in 2002. Even after moving off the farm, he could still be found in a field until his health made him unable to get on a tractor. He was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church; served on the board of trustees and enjoyed singing in the choir. He is survived by his children; Linda Ruhter and Bill Leedom. Richard, David and Phillip Ruhter, all of Twin Falls; his grandchildren: Brandi and Bryce Gibson, Derrick and Teresa O’Dell, Kori and Callie Ruhter, Erin Craig, Alyssa and Greg Virts; his great grandchildren: Bryttni and Braeghan Gibson, Raymond and Tyler O’Dell, Jagger and Jordie Ruhter, Damien and Persepone Virts; and his great-great granddaughter: Saoirse Neel; his brothers: Marlin, John and Martha, Dean and Shirley and many extended family members. He is preceded in death by his wife Gladys, his parents, his brothers Lyle and Devon Sr., his sister, Carlene Jones and his great granddaughter Bailee Rae Gibson. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July9, 2013 at 10:30 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park at 9:30 am. The family suggests memorials be given to Immanuel Lutheran School or Camp Perkins. Arrangements are under the direction of Dustin Godfrey and the staff at Rosenau Funeral Home.
