TWIN FALLS- Joseph Franklin McMullin, 89, of Twin Falls, passed away on Monday January 4, 2016, surrounded by his family at his farm home. He was born on, May 28, 1926 in Alva, Oklahoma, to Ray and Grace (Barber) McMullin. The family moved from Alva to Twin Falls, Idaho when he was twelve in 1939 onto the farm where he spent the remainder of his life. He graduated from Twin Falls high School in 1944 and then immediately joined the Air Force at the end of WWII, where he was honorably discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant. After his military service he attended Linfield College in Western Oregon from 1945-47 when he then attended Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon where he graduated in 1949 with a Bachelors degree in agriculture science. Upon graduation he went to Baker City, Oregon where he taught horticulture to the returning veterans, where he insisted that they knew more than he did. While in Baker, he became infatuated with the church piano player, Pearl Anne Walter. He says he could not remember a word the pastor said, but he could sure remember who played the piano that night. They were married on Easter Sunday, March 25, 1951, and resided in Baker for a short time. They moved to Twin Falls in the spring of 1952 where Frank took over the family farm on North Washington. In addition to farming he worked for ten years at the Sugar Factory, one year for the Job Corp Labor Department, and also his sales abilities blossomed selling life insurance and petroleum products. Also during this time he was a substitute teacher for the Twin Falls School District and he enjoyed playing his trombone in the city band. Frank never new a stranger, at least not for long. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, downhill skiing, camping and boating. He was a hard worker who used the farm to teach his children and foster children how to work. Frank and Pearl’s home has always been filed with music and their love for their Lord and Savior. Together they shared their talents with others by providing musical accompaniment at the First Baptist Church, the Service Center of Yuma, Arizona and Grace Baptist Church, where he played the organ. Frank was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Frank is survived by his four children, Sandra (John) Brennan of Twin Falls, Idaho; Steve McMullin of Twin Falls, Idaho; Pamela (Stan) Harding of Tacoma, Washington and David (Janice) McMullin of Thorton, Colorado; brother Phillip McMullin of Grass Valley, California and also by 20 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Pearl Anne McMullin; his parents Ray and Grace McMullin; his brother Carleton McMullin and his baby brother Allen McMullin. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday January 29, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday January 29, 2016 at Grace Baptist Church. The family would like to thank all of the Hospice Visions staff for their loving care for Frank and the Twin Falls Senior Center.
