Faye Dean Matlock passed away peacefully after a short, but hard-fought battle with cancer on October 29, 2024. She was born at home in Richfield, Idaho, on March 29, 1942, the fourth of five children. She spoke fondly of her growing up years, telling stories of riding to school in a horse-drawn sleigh with foot heaters and lap blankets when the snow drifts were high. Hard work was instilled in her from a young age as she helped tend to the family’s cows, garden, and home.
After her first marriage dissolved at a young age, she married the love of her life, Elmo Rasmussen, on November 23, 1963. Together they raised Shane, Pamela, and Elisha. Faye and Elmo were active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and were sealed in the Salt Lake City temple on November 4, 1980. Idahoans at heart, after short stints living in Wyoming and Arizona, they always returned to their beloved state. She lost Elmo after 48 years of marriage, then married Lewis Matlock on September 28, 2012. They were married for 12 years until his death in March 2024.
Faye volunteered much of her time in service to the church and its members and served faithfully throughout her life in Primary and Relief Society presidencies. She possessed a strong work ethic and was proud of the many jobs she had throughout her life, from working in an Ore-Ida factory, to driving a potato truck, being an Avon lady, and managing a school cafeteria. Faye also loved spending time outside working in her yard and tending to her flowers and garden. She was a people person and loved talking and making friends everywhere she went. She especially enjoyed the relationships with her aunts, uncles, and cousins and maintained strong ties to them throughout her life.
She is predeceased in death by her husband Elmo Rasmussen and her husband Lewis Matlock, her parents James Vern and Lula Spencer, and brothers James William and Lloyd Vern. She is survived by her three children: Shane Rasmussen (Tammy), Pamela Farr, and Elisha Figueroa (Grant Loebs); 9 grandchildren: Ryan Stahl, Shaun Rasmussen, Lance Rasmussen, Brandi Kimbrough (Brian), Jens Farr, Tawnya Bereece (Andy), Hayley Parker (Dalton), Hayden Figueroa (Chloe), Ethan Figueroa, John Loebs, and Sarah Loebs; as well as 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Helen Castro and Ilene Erwin.
Services will be held Saturday, November 9, at the LDS Chapel, 2680 Elizabeth Blvd, Twin Falls, Idaho.
