Ernest N. Reed, Jr. passed away Sunday, August 23 at Wynwood - Brookdale Assisted Living Center from complications due to Parkinson's Disease.
Ernest was born November 19,1926, in Hazelton, Idaho, to Ernest and Ena Kirkpatrick Reed. He attended Greenwood Grade School and Hazelton High School where he graduated in 1944. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He always referred to himself as a "Hollywood Sailor," since he had the good fortune to spend his entire service career in and around Hollywood. Upon completing his enlistment, he attended Idaho State College, Iowa State College, and then graduated from The University of Idaho in 1951.
On June 12, 1949, he married Dorothy Kingsley in Bedford , Iowa. They were married for 64 years at the time of Dorothy's passing in 2013.
After Ernest's college graduation, they moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where Ernest worked as an F.B. I. Agent out of the Kansas City jurisdiction. Idaho and the rural life-style were in his blood, so in 1952 they returned to Hazelton, Idaho and started farming. Ernest and his brother Dahl farmed and raised cattle together for the next fifty plus years. During this time, Ernest, also, taught in the Valley School District for thirteen years.
In his younger years, he attended The Greenwood Sunday School, and in later years The Valley Presbyterian Church.
He was a life member of a the National Rifle Association.
His hobbies included raising Angus cattle , hunting , fishing , reading, listening to music, and in later years, testing his poker skills in Jackpot.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, and his brother-in-law, Jim Corbett. He is survived by his brother, Dahl (Miriam) Reed of Hazelton, and sister, Della Corbett of Nampa; nephews, Kent Corbett, Meridian, Ron Morrison, Orofino, Wayne Morrison and Ernie Morrison, both of Creston, Iowa; nieces, Kim Andersen, Nampa, Barbara Long, Clarinda, Iowa and Marilyn Sharp, Bedford, Iowa. He is also survived by numerous great and great, great-nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the following doctors and their staffs for the outstanding care and compassion that they extended to Ernest: Dr. Mark Alexander, Dr. Wayne Blauer, Dr Richard Hammond, and Dr. Chris Scholes. We would also like to thank Idaho Home Health and Hospice for their kind services to Ernest, and especially to his buddy, "the bath man," Robert. Finally we are so grateful for the care and concern given by the management and the entire staff at Wynwood - Brookdale for the past five years. Under the circumstances, he could not have had a better home.
