Eric was born in Albany, Oregon on September 16, 1948 to Ruth and Robert Richardson. He grew up on the family farm in the Dever-Connor area and had a lifelong love of farming. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1966 and Oregon State University in 1975 and 1977 (master’s). He served in the U.S. Army from 1970-1973. He was deployed to Vietnam in 1971, earning a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations. He married Susanne Burck of Albany, Oregon on December 21, 1969. They have two daughters, Erin and Amanda.
Eric loved the outdoors and spent many seasons with family and friends hunting, hiking, and fishing in the mountains of Oregon and Idaho. He shared these passions with his children and grandsons. He loved the game of baseball, whether watching the Yankees or coaching Amanda’s softball team for 6 years. A farmer at heart, he always kept a backyard garden and tried his hand at beekeeping.
He was a HAM (amateur) radio operator known as NW7K and spent hours talking to people over the radio. He had many HAM friends, was a Magic Valley Amateur Radio Club member, and participated in club activities. After they retired, Eric and Susanne took many journeys in their RV. They especially enjoyed winters in southern Arizona where he developed a passion for the desert and turquoise.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susanne, and his daughters Erin Richardson (Angel Adam) and Amanda Richardson (Michael Stanger); his grandsons Braden (Katie) Guerra, Owen De La Cruz, and Hunter Garcia; his great-granddaughter, Layla Guerra; and his siblings, Robert P. Richardson Jr. and Carole (Cliff) Bowen.
