Twin Falls, ID

Elvina Holbrook, 88, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully on September 6 2024, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born on June 21, 1936, in Henderson, Nebraska, she was the cherished daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Franz. As the oldest of five children, Elvina grew up surrounded by her loving sisters, Lois, Alice, Glenda, and her brother, Ardean, all of whom remain with us today.

Elvina's heart overflowed with love for her family, her faith, and her passion for teaching. She devoted herself fervently to her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother. In 1962, she joyfully married her devoted husband, James Holbrook, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter for 62 wonderful years. Elvina was blessed with two children, a daughter, Evonne Savage, and a son, Mark Holbrook (Holly), who brought immense pride and joy to her life. In addition, she had the joy of watching her family grow, leaving behind 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored deeply.

Throughout her life, Elvina was a beacon of light, embodying Christ's love in everything she did. As a schoolteacher, Sunday school teacher, and music teacher, she poured her heart into educating and nurturing others, instilling in them the same love and goodness of Jesus that guided her life. Elvina’s dedication to teaching was recognized even after her retirement when she continued to substitute teach and earned the esteemed Teacher of the Year award, a testament to her unwavering commitment to her students.

Her passion for music shined brightly within her church community as she gracefully led the choir, sharing her love for worship through song. Elvina's life was rich with many cherished memories: holiday gatherings filled with laughter, her unmatched cherry rolls, and her famous birthday cakes, lovingly crafted for her children and grandchildren. She loved sewing and quilting, often creating beautiful aprons for her grandchildren so they could assist her in the kitchen, delighting in the many simple yet precious moments they shared together.

Elvina's hands were always busy, whether she was baking, gardening, or sewing. She enjoyed sharing stories from her childhood on the farm in Nebraska, imparting lessons of love and perseverance to those around her. Her love for games brought joy to family gatherings, fostering connections and laughter that will forever resonate within her family.

As we remember Elvina, we celebrate the life of a true prayer warrior. Her faith was steadfast and unyielding, a guiding presence in the lives of her family and friends. She was always eager to lend a helping hand and generously shared her testimony of faith with others. Elvina was dedicated to her husband, her children, and her Lord, ensuring that her legacy of love continues through the lives she touched.

She is predeceased by her beloved parents, Albert and Elizabeth Franz. Elvina leaves behind a vibrant family that will continue to honor her memory.
