Edwin Carl DeVall

April 22, 1948 — July 17, 2011

Edwin Carl DeVall peacefully left for a journey Sunday morning July 17th, where he could continue to watch over all of us in a world without any pain or sadness. He was born April 22, 1948 to Carl and Leah DeVall in Wendell, Id. The family moved to Filer where he grew up and attended school. Ed was a hard worker, and at the age of 6 began working for Allison Feed Mills sweeping floors. He graduated from Filer High School in 1967 and later enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served both in Thailand and Germany, and honorably discharged in 1971. Ed married Bonnie Haycock and accepted twin boys Patrick and Mark Roddy as his own. Ed and Bonnie later divorced but Ed kept in contact with the boys and was always so proud of their accomplishments in life, and loved them both dearly. In May of 1979 he graduated from CSI with an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement. He worked for the Filer Police Department, and then spent 18 years as one of Twin Falls’ finest, reaching rank of Sergeant. While he was a full time Officer, he also worked a second job delivering Molasses to feedlots for Molasses Supply. During his time on the force he married Bonnie Williams and accepted a daughter, Michelle Williams as his own. Although Ed never had biological children, he loved, taught, and unselfishly fathered his stepchildren willingly with undying love and care. Ed knew everyone, and rarely disliked anyone. He even managed to have respect for people he had arrested in the past, and they in turn respected him. He had friends from all walks of life and was a good friend to them all. His incredible sense of humor and gift of gab made him one of the best salesmen around. He literally had the ability to sell the shirt he was wearing. He had a little side gig buying and selling lawn mowers, so when he left the City of Twin Falls; he decided to try his hand at selling cars. He quickly became “Salesman Of The Year” at Randy Hansen Chevrolet and continued to receive awards for several years. When Lithia took over Chevrolet, Ed left Randy Hansen and found a home at Wills Toyota where he continued to sell cars even when his health made it difficult to do so. He could spend hours telling jokes, and always had a new one to tell. He had a fabulous voice and loved to sing Karaoke. He would get slightly agitated when others got their turn, and didn’t like to share the microphone much. Ed loved to perform and amazingly sang with his brother John just one hour after a recent surgery. His strength and positive attitude serves greatly as a lesson to us all. He had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior and his undying faith carried him home. His parents Carl and Leah DeVall, Step Mother Peggy May DeVall, and Brother Richard DeVall preceded him in death. Surviving Ed, are his wife Bonnie DeVall and daughter Michelle Chavez of Twin Falls. Sons Patrick (Jennifer) Roddy of Tucson, Az, and Mark (Caren) Roddy of Phoenix, Az. His grandchildren who were the light of his life: Bryce Wisdom, Cayden Chavez, and Adrian Chavez of Twin Falls, Sophia Roddy of Tucson, AZ., Garrott and Eryn Roddy of Phoenix, Az. Brothers James (Juanita) of Rupert, Id, John (Charlotte) of Caldwell, Id. and Sister Denise Stewart (Jack) of Bend, Or. Also surviving are aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and close friends, far too many to name whom he loved dearly and will miss him just the same. The family wishes to thank all the Doctors and Nurses who did everything medically possible and friends and family who visited, shared memories, spent the night, brought food, and laughed and cried right along with us. You all made this transition a little less painful and we love you for that. A special thanks to Pam Gregory, our friend and Hospice nurse whom he loved having care for him and Heidi his CNA who he took to quickly and looked forward to seeing. A very special thank you to our Angel on earth and Ed’s good friend Randy Semba who spent hours on end taking him to treatments, keeping him company during the day, praying with him, and caring for him as he would his own family. Randy stayed with us all and held us up when we could no longer stand. He is an incredible blessing to have in our lives, and there are no words for the amount of appreciation we have for him. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2011 Rosenau Funeral Home followed by internment Filer Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, July 22 at the funeral home. Memorial Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718. Family and friends are encouraged to share their thoughts and memories at www.rosenaufuneralhome.com.
