Edward K. Southfield

February 10, 1942 — June 13, 2014

Edward K. Southfield, 72, of Buhl Idaho went to be with our Heavenly Father on June 13, 2014. Ed was born February 10, 1942 in Bellflower, California. He was the youngest of 9 children born to Ed and Anna Southfield. As a young boy, his father kept him around cows, which created a lifelong passion. Dairying was something he was born to do. Ed spent his childhood under the California sun working alongside his family and friends on dairy farms. As a teenager, he gave his all to learn about the dairy industry and was an active member in the school FFA program and earned the State Farmer degree in 1958. Ed graduated from Excelsior High School in Norwalk, California, in 1959. Immediately after graduation, Ed started his own dairy farm and met the love of his life Carol Bothof. The two united in marriage in 1961 and resided in Southern California. They were blessed with 2 sons and 1 daughter. He was a very devoted father and husband. In 1992, He moved to Idaho to continue Southfield Dairy with his son, Edwin and son-in-law, Arie Roeloffs. Ed (Papa) absolutely loved and cherished his 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He loved to take them fishing and for ice cream, and loved taking them around the dairy where he routinely stopped under pivots to cool them off when they were young. Eddie would always look forward to planning gatherings with all of the grandkids. Ed was well respected in the community. In 2008, he was awarded South Idaho livestock Hall of Fame. Ed was very caring and compassionate. He was known as a man with a big heart and a handshake that would make anyone remember him. He ALWAYS put the needs of others before his own. Eddie touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity. He was a great storyteller. He loved playing cards with friends and family. Ed also loved football, fishing, and traveling with his wife. He was an active and dedicated member of New Life Community Church.
