Twin Falls

Donald Dean Chadd died in his home in Twin Falls, Idaho on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 with his wife Glenda at his side.

Don and his twin sister Darlene, who was an hour older, were born at home on April 20, 1932 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Edyth Iola Hershberger Chadd and John Hobart Chadd. Don had to be placed in a warming oven since he needed a bit of help after he was born. Sometime later, his parents divorced and Don’s mother married John Terpo and they had a daughter, Judy Terpo. Don’s father married Rosella (Rose) Sandoval and they had a son, Richard Chadd.

When Don was 12 years old, his mother died, so he and his sister Darlene were adopted by his aunt Lynda Hershberger Lightfoot and so his cousins, Connie and Sharon become their sisters. Later another cousin/sister, Roberta was bon and added to the family.

He graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1951. Later in 1952, Don joined the Navy during the Korean War and was in the Naval Construction Battalion (CB) better known as the Navy SeaBees. Don was stationed in Guam, Japan, Korea, but spent most of his time in the Philippines. When he was discharged from the Navy, he returned to Twin Falls, Idaho and went to work for the Coca-Cola company in 1955 as a route driver. He became an Assistant Sales Manager until 1988 then worked as the Special Event Coordinator until his retirement in 1994. Don worked for Coca-Cola for 39 years and always remained a Coca-Cola man and wouldn’t allow any other brands of soda pop in the house.

Don met and married Carol Elaine Kistler on April 23, 1955 in Elko, Nevada. To that union were born 3 sons and 1 daughter; Timothy, Larry, Douglas and Kris.

Besides being a loyal Coca-Cola man, his other passion was flowers. He loved all types of flowers, but his favorites were tulips, dahlias and irises. He was a member of the Magic Valley Iris Society from 1966-2007 and he also became an American Iris Society judge. He judged irises at many iris shows around the Magic Valley. He also loved to enter his flowers at the Twin Falls County Fair and won many ribbons.

Don and Carol divorced in 1982. Don met Glenda Heath at Parents Without Partners and they later married on October 17, 1993 in Elko, Nevada. After Don’s retirement from Coca-Cola, he and Glenda traveled to many areas of the United States including cruises to Alaska and Hawaii.

Don developed interests in coins, antiques, pottery and glassware. Don and Glenda collected and sold many antiques and also entered the antiques into the Twin Falls County Fair and won many ribbons there. He also enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips throughout his life. He never met a stranger and would talk to them about all of his varied interests and made many friends over the years. He also loved dogs and had many special companions throughout his life which gave him much joy.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, son Larry Chadd, sister Roberta Moeller, sister Judy Terpo Harr, 2 stepdaughters, Julie Heath, Robbyn Heath, stepson Mike Heath and 3 step grandchildren.

He leaves behind his wife Glenda, sister Darlene Chadd Murphy, brother Richard (Darlene) Chadd, sisters Connie Jacobsen, Sharon McManigal, sons Tim (Michelle) Chadd, Doug (Keith) Chadd, daughter Kris (Phil) Trulson, stepdaughters Mary Ann (Berry) Swinney, Glenna (Gary) Eden, Amy (Casey) Perkins, 24 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
