Dolphy Ralph “Doc” Callen 88 years old passed away on May 27, 2016 after a short illness. Dolphy R. Callen was born in Wendell, Idaho on December 18, 1927 at the St. Valentine Hospital to Tom Callen and Fern Margaret O’Harrow. Doc grew up on the “Home Place”, a farm near Jerome, Idaho. He was the 3rd child of 4 brothers and 2 sisters. He attended Appleton School located south west of Jerome. Doc served in the Army with the occupation forces in Japan. He served as the jeep driver for the company commander. Upon returning home he met and married ErmaLee Rupe of Jerome in 1950. Erma Laveta “ErmaLee” Rupe 83 years old passed away on May 4, 2016 at her home in Hollister, Idaho. ErmaLee was born in Walch, Colorado on October 16, 1932 to Beryl Rosco Rupe and Evelyn Grace Greathouse. ErmaLee and her family remained there until 1941. As her father joined the Navy in 1941 they moved to San Diego, California where her mother worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” during the war. Upon her father’s return from service in 1945, the family returned to Jerome where ErmaLee attended Jerome High School. She worked as a waitress until she met and married Doc Callen on January 12, 1950. In 1951 Doc and ErmaLee loaded up their baby, Sherry and moved to the “Point Ranch”; thier new home. This was 6 miles south of Rogerson, Idaho where their family increased with three more children. The ranch expanded to include the “Strawstack Ranch” where the family moved to live on the north end of the ranch in 1962. They remained there until their death. As a ranch family time was spent working the ranch. Doc was a BLM Per Diem Guard for many years. Both Doc and ErmaLee were also 4-H leaders. As a family they loved collecting, and when time allowed they enjoyed the many miles they put on their motorhome exploring the USA and Canada. Many trips were spent fishing for salmon and riding in the Imperial sand dunes in California. Doc is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gilbert, Tommy and Jerry Callen and sister Joy Stringham. ErmaLee is preceded in death by her parents and brother LaVoe Rupe. Doc is survived by Jerry Callen and Blanche Peters. Both Doc and ErmaLee are survived by Sherry (Lee) Satterwhite of Rogerson, Kerry (Randy) Perkins, Marsha (Jerry) Young and Lyn (Shelley) Callen all of Hollister. 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. They are also survived by 7 step grandchildren. A memorial service will be held for both Doc and Ermalee will be held on Thursday June 9, 2016 at 2pm at Rosenau Funeral Home, 2826 Addison Ave E. Twin Falls. Arrangements are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.
