David L. Anderson, 72, passed away at his home in Kimberly, Idaho on Wednesday, May 11th, 2016 after 18 years of battling COPD and diabetes.
David was born on March 11, 1944 in Provo, Utah to Leonard Eugene and Nilda Shiner Anderson. David lived in Trona, California until age 11 when the family moved to Provo, UT. At an early age he began raising pigeons, breeding and racing them. It was a love affair that lasted his entire life. As a child he collected toy army men and enjoyed watching movies and would often spend a Saturday watching movies over and over at the theater. He loved baseball as well, and was a pitcher for various leagues and later enjoyed hearing about his grandsons’ pitching efforts. While growing up, he was always for the underdog but loved teasing his two sisters Betty and Dwyla.
He graduated from Provo High School in 1962 and went to work for Barbizon in Provo, UT where he worked his way up from a sewing machine mechanic to Production Manager. The first year after graduation he fell in love with and married his wife, Carol Tanner on June 26, 1963 in Springville, UT. Their first son, Richard David was born a year later with Julie Nilda following up two years later. They lived in Aurora and Provo, UT, Albuquerque, NM, and Lubbock and Wichita Falls, TX during which time they had another daughter and son- Nicole and Brandon L. before returning to Roy, UT where they lived for 17 more years.
Besides working for Barbizon, Dave worked for Levi Strauss & Co., & Catalina Sportswear as Plant Managers before moving once again to Logan, UT where he was Plant Manager of American Apparel for another 5 years before retiring due to health problems in 1998. He, Carol, and Julie later moved to Kimberly, ID where they have lived the past ten years.
David was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and he and Carol were sealed to each other and their children in the Ogden LDS Temple in January 1977. He held multiple callings over the years but enjoyed his calling in the Elder’s Quorum Presidency the very most.
His involvement in Pigeon Racing peaked while living in Roy, UT where he became well-known among pigeon enthusiasts as a fine breeder and racer and a member of the American Racing Pigeon Union. If you ever wanted to see his face light-up, just ask about Pigeon Racing. He met and had friendships with people all over the U.S. and world due to his involvement in the sport. He also loved golfing, 4-wheeling, and hunting.
David is survived by his wife Carol, his children-Richard Anderson (Sheri), Julie Anderson, Nicole Christiansen (Steve), Brandon Anderson (Tammy). His sister Dwyla Bogh (Marvin) of American Fork, UT. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda Adams (Austin) Jake Anderson(Alyssa), & Brandi Anderson of Syracuse, UT, Jessica and Lars Christiansen of Twin Falls, ID, Korlee Combe of Thatcher, UT, Colyn John, Nizhoni & Natahni Anderson of Logan, UT.
