Darrel James McMahon, of Twin Falls, ID passed away on Sunday, December 11th, 2022 at age 73.
He was born to James and Florence McMahon on June 11, 1949 in Fargo, North Dakota. Darrel was the second of four siblings: brother Dennis McMahon, and sisters Mary and Ann. He was baptized at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Alice, North Dakota where he received his First Holy Communion and was confirmed. Darrel attended elementary school in Alice, and high school in Buffalo, North Dakota where he graduated in 1967. He joined the US Marine Corps from 1967-1969. He then graduated from the nurse anesthetist program at NDSU in 1976. He married his first wife, Erlanne Scholz of Fargo, ND and together they shared a daughter, Lisa. Later, he married DeAnna Kessel and together they had four sons, James, Daniel, Philip, and Thomas. He then married Teresa Dixon on June 8th, 2002. She brought three children into the marriage, Michelle, Michael, and Melanie, as well as nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In total, he was the proud grandfather and great-grandfather to fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Darrel loved all of his family deeply and enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with them, cherishing those special moments in the mountains of Idaho to the farmlands of North Dakota.
He had a love for the beauty and wonder of nature, and was exceptionally intelligent and charming. His life’s many adventures included a tour to Vietnam serving in the Marine Corps, practicing as a gifted nurse anesthetist, flying as a recreational pilot and enjoying life as a true sportsman in the outdoors. His career took different paths, but his strong values stayed the same in real estate, car sales and RN work in assisted living facilities. His blue eyes had a sparkle, and his wit never faltered until he took his last breath.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa McMahon, his children Lisa (Steve) Ansley, James (Mollie), Daniel, Philip, and Thomas (Holly); step-children Mike, Melanie,and Michelle; and siblings Mary Galbreath (Ed), Ann Romsdahl (Paul), and Dennis.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James L. McMahon and Florence (Kapaun) McMahon, his former wife Erlanne, brother-in-law Craig Galbreath and daughter-in-law Ginger McMahon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Enderlin, ND on Friday, July 28th at 10 AM, with a luncheon to follow. Interment with Military Honors will take place at the Alice Cemetery in Alice, North Dakota at 1PM with a reception to follow at the Alice Fire Hall.
