Our much loved husband, father, pastor, and friend, Daniel Dee Marks, passed away on September 30, 2011 in Twin Falls, Idaho. Dan was born November 15, 1952 in Exeter, California, the first child of Joan and Chester Marks. He and his younger sister, Debi, grew up in Lindsay, California where Dan graduated from Lindsay High School in 1970, enjoying the wonderful San Joaquin Valley. Dan attended the College of the Sequoias before moving to Los Angeles with a group of friends in a rock-and-roll band. Sensing the true need in his life, while alone in a city park in Culver City, California, Dan put his trust in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and his life was never the same. From that point forward, Dan began singing and playing for Jesus. Dan met his wife, Ollie in 1976 and they were married on April 8, 1978. They spent their honeymoon at the “happiest place on earth”, Disneyland. Dan worked at Allied Records as a Quality Control Engineer until accepting a position as worship leader at Calvary Chapel of Downey in 1981. Dan and Ollie were blessed with the birth of a son, Stephen Daniel, on September 8, 1987. Stephen quickly became the apple of Dan’s eye which was obvious through the very close and special relationship they had throughout the years. Whether watching baseball or playing guitar together, their bond was exceptional. Dan loved music all his life and he was always working on some new song. The most important passion of his life was to share the Good News of Jesus to all, to love his family, and to use his gifting to create worship music. Dan and Ollie both worked at Calvary Chapel until March, 2001, when Dan felt led of the Lord to accept an invitation to join the staff of Lighthouse Christian Fellowship in Twin Falls, Idaho. Dan and Ollie made many wonderful friends in Idaho and visited California often to be with family and friends, and on August 13, 2011 he and Ollie were thrilled to see Stephen propose to his fiancé, April Mason. On August 23, 2011 Dan was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer and went to be with Jesus in the early hours of September 30 with his family by his side. Dan’s faith in Jesus carried him through his final days with courage and grace and complete confidence in God’s will for his life. Dan is survived by his wife, Ollie (Twin Falls, Idaho), his son, Stephen (Twin Falls, Idaho), his mother and father, Chester and Joan Marks (Exeter, California), his sister, Debi Clevenger (Springville, California), his mother-in-law, Frances Karavedas (Downey, California), his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Nick and Joy Karavedas, (Pasadena, California), and his nieces and nephews, April Winney (Los Angeles, California), Peter Karavedas and his wife, Erin Karavedas(Glendora, California), Ashley Karavedas (Pasadena, California), and Joseph Karavedas (Pasadena, California). Dan was preceded in death by his dear sister-in-law Angela Karavedas in March of this year. A memorial service for Dan Marks will be held on Sunday, October 2 at 5:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship, 960 Eastland Drive, Twin Falls, Idaho. A second memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Chapel Downey, 12808 Woodruff Avenue, Downey, California.
