Codie Melugin

April 27, 1971 — February 9, 2024

Codie Elizabeth Melugin left this earth on February 9th, 2024.  Heaven gained a true angel from earth that evening.

Codie was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on April 27th, 1971 to Verla K. (Bailey/Martin) Rice and Boyd Landrum. When Verla married Bill Rice, Bill became her on scene Dad and did a lot to help raise her. She considered him to be an amazing caregiver and protector. She was also the apple of her mamas eye and one of the most beautiful little girls ever. Her older siblings knew she was able to get her way sometimes just on her beauty.

She attended the Murtaugh School district and graduated from Murtaugh high school in 1989. She was known as a reliable babysitter in the community and a great friend to many. She loved to have fun and spent lots of time with her best friend Niki Hanks.

Codie knew her husband and the love of her life, Carl, from around the age of 4 or 5 years old. Over the years they lost touch and when she became an adult at 21 she reconnected with him and fell madly in love with him. She knew he was her soulmate. They married on July 31st, 1993. It was a relationship above all others. They truly loved each other dearly. Sadly, Codie unexpectedly lost Carl in June of 2017. She went on to mourn him for the rest of her days until she reunited with him in heaven.

Codie and Carl had two sons.  From the moment the boys were born, their parents were filled with pride over the boys and taught them life’s morals and values barring none. Codie’s beautiful blue eyes would light up so bright whenever she got the chance to talk about her boys. What she loved the most in her life were Carl and her sons.  She was a kind, caring, sweet mom and never wanted anything except the best for her boys. She truly looked forward to grandchildren someday. But for now she was content with having her boys around her whenever they got the chance. They cared for her faithfully and they will feel the biggest void in the loss of their mama. They already knew what it was like to lose their dad.

Codie attended CSI and worked for a Bachelors Degree in Accounting which she obtained in 2002. She spent a number of years working for both Dell and C-3, working herself into a supervisory position.

She worked as a bar tender at one point in her younger years and was very good at it, establishing a server/customer mentality that skyrocketed and never came back to the ground. She knew how to serve people and could out waitress anyone. She worked in a variety of places in and around Kimberly Idaho with her main place being Monterey Jacks Pizza. She was very well known as the best waitress Maxie’s/Monterey Jacks ever had. She adored her boss Ed, who always was very good to her. They were good friends for over 30 years and she worked there off and on, mostly on, for over 30 years. She often teased that her and Ed were work husband and wife, who occasionally spat at each other. She also held a managerial position there training many employees and always being courteous and kind to everyone. She loved visiting and joking with many of her loyal patrons. And she did have many.

Codie had the biggest heart and would help anyone in need if she was at all capable of it. She cared deeply for her family and was an amazing sister and aunt.

Her favorite color was green, she loved pansies and roses, and she loved angels. And there was always far more to her than met the eye. She had a talent for stepping into another persons shoes and seeing things from their side. She did this many times over a 30 year period for her best friend and sister, Colletta. Over the years Colletta saw both Carl and Codie just pop into someone’s house with a boatload of groceries or they did some kind of awesome thing just to help someone out. Codie never stopped even after losing Carl. She had a heart of gold.

Codie is preceded in death by her mom, her biological dad, her granny, and her husband Carl.

She is survived by her sons, her pride and joy, Jace Melugin and Riley Melugin, her dad Bill Rice, her brothers Bill (Marilou) Martin and Todd (Elvie) Maas, her sisters Robyn (Scott) Ross, Lacy (Kim) Rice and Sarah (Corey) Farnsworth. She is also survived by her brother in law Matt (Ronda) Melugin and a close nephew Darren Melugin. And her adopted sister Colletta (Steve) Thornsberry. She had a number of nieces, Stefanie, Mercedes, Myranda, Jasmine, Elizabeth, Echo, Brittany, Sage and Charlee. Nephews Jon, Chris, Nathan, Logan, and Ethan. Plus their spouses and children. All of Codie’s survivors will be missing her dearly.

The family finds peace and comfort knowing Codie is no longer fighting the multitude of medical issues she had and that she is with God and back in the arms of her loving husband.

You were such an amazing person Codie. Selfless and giving always. It is our hope that you are able to rest in peace now and enjoy the beauty of heaven. You will be dearly missed here on earth forever. Till we see you again.

A celebration of Codie’s life is planned for Saturday, February 24th, 2024 from 3-6 pm at the Murtaugh City Hall, 106 4th Street, Murtaugh ID 83344. It will be an informal celebration. Come and enjoy some food and share stories of our Codie with family and friends.
