Christine D. Chambers, 93, (June 11, 1923 – April 12, 2017), Filer, Idaho. Christine went home to be with her Lord Jesus, Wednesday, in the early morning hours, at Cedar Draw Assisted Living, where she succumbed to complications from cancer.
Christine was born in Gadsden, Alabama, and lived there until she moved to Maywood, California (26 yrs.); then Quincy, CA (13 yrs.); Chico, CA (2 years), and later to Filer, Idaho (14 ½ yrs.).
Christine's four daughters were the joy of her heart, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were like a slice of heaven for her. Christine is survived by her daughters: Ruth Lashmett, Shela Furze, Marsha Forster and Angela Bolick; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Christine was preceded in passing by her husband, V.K. Chambers; her great grandson, Mikhail Nikolov; her brother, James Michael; and her sister, Jewel Michael.
Christine performed service jobs for people, and her first job outside the home was Dwight Manufacturing Company in the Spinning Room, Gadsden, Alabama. Additionally, she was the first woman to successfully operate a vacuum seal machine at Farmer John in Los Angeles.
Her life's favorite Bible verses were:
"Trust in and rely confidently on the LORD with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, and He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way]." Proverbs 3:5-6
Christine's inclusiveness (especially for the marginalized) and unconditional love, as well as her gift of hospitality, were tangible reflections of Christ's Spirit Who governed her life. She was authentic and full of humor and intellectual curiosity. She was strong, confident, resolute and faithful. She is also remembered as an avid reader, a meticulous homemaker, a crossword puzzle aficionado, a masterful cook, and a die-hard L.A. Dodger's fan. Her ebullient enthusiasm for Christ, family and others, inspired all who encountered her. She will be dearly missed.
Christine's Memorial Service and Reception (to follow) will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 29th, at Filer Church of the Nazarene, 315 Yakima Ave, Filer, ID 83328.
The family would like to thank all of those who helped care for their beloved mother in the last 2½ months of her life: Dr. Dan Nofzigger, the staff at Cedar Draw Assisted Living, and faithful friends. Many thanks also to the Rosenau Funeral Home, for providing invaluable support, assistance, and information to the family.
