Charles Raymond Olson of Hazelton, Idaho, died late on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the age of 78.
Charles was born to Raymond and Carma Bell Olson on March 30, 1943, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. His parents lived and farmed in the Lost River Valley near Darlington for several years. The family welcomed a sister, Ronda, and little brother Calvin. The Olsons moved to the Magic Valley in 1947 and continued farming.
Chuck attended Eden Grade School and Valley High School, graduating in 1962. He attended the College of Idaho, graduating in 1967. During his time in Caldwell, Chuck was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church on March 22, 1964.
Chuck married Ruth Kohtz, October 16, 1966, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Eden, Idaho. They moved to Akron, Ohio, where Chuck was drafted into the US Army in October, 1968. He served as an MP gate one guard at Siegelsbach Military Depot in Germany. He was discharged July, 1970.
Chuck got his start in farming with his Dad and then farmed his own farm for the next 30 years.
Son Jeremy Charles was born August 22, 1977, and he is the light of his parents’ life.
After selling his farm in 2000, Chuck drove 18 wheel big rigs over the road across much of the country. He worked for several farmers during the harvest season. He enjoyed keeping busy, went deer and elk hunting, fishing, and camping with friends and family.
He produced beautiful gardens and shared the bounty. Chuck was an avid reader of history and Biblical Theology. He was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jerome. He loved Jesus, his Savior, and died a Christian death.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Carma. He is survived by Ruth, his wife of 55 years, Jeremy and Mary Olson of Breckenridge, Colorado, sister Ronda Olson of Pocatello, brother Calvin Olson of Hazelton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in Chuck’s memory can be made to the Orphan Grain Train.
