Brian Douglas Shields
November 13, 1956 - October 13, 2016
Unfortunately and very unexpectedly, we've lost a very beautiful soul, kind, compassionate, loving and a step-to-the-plate individual, Brian Shields, or better known as "Big B".
Brian was born in Pittsburg, PA on November 13, 1956. He was the oldest of seven children. He was an outstanding son, brother and uncle.
On May 13, 2013, he married his best friend, Judy, who was the love of his life. They enjoyed many travels together. His second love was fishing or just being on the river with no pole at all. Brian also had a passion for woodworking and his latest dream was to build his own drift boat.
Most of us know him as our smiling 'Happy Postal Service Personnel", to others a fishing buddy and to many others … The Umpire! In whichever case, he was truly one man that stood out from the crowd. He loved life, loved sharing time with family and friends. He enjoyed being out on the field and on the sidelines also in service, sharing conversation and laughs with everyone that approached his postal counter.
On September 15, 2016, Brian had a pacemaker. Things seemed normal until October 9, 2016, when he thought he had come down with flu. However, the next four days turned out for the worst. Judy had begged him to go seek help but instead he ended up in the Emergency Room at St. Luke's in Ketchum early in the morning of October 13, 2016. He was diagnosed with "sepsis", which is a life-threatening blood infection.
Within a short period of time, he was life-flighted to St. Luke's Magic Valley in Twin Falls, ID. When Judy entered his room and held his hand, she said, "Brian I know you can hear me and when you get to Heaven and see Jesus at the Pearly Gates, walk directly to Jesus, hold out your right hand and say, 'Hi Jesus, my name is Brian Shields and it is truly a pleasure to meet you'." During this time, Brian squeezed Judy's hand and then closed his eyes for the last time.
As life is so serendipitous, gracious and compassionate we celebrate! Other times, unfortunately, aren't so sweet and endearing ~ they're Earth shattering!
This is just a short summary of Brian's life.
"Brian, your life was a blessing,
Your memory a treasure,
You are so loved beyond words ~
And, missed beyond measure."
