Berta Jean Stone (Baird) of Eden, Idaho died on July 2, 2024
She was born Oct. 18, 1936 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Ralph Curtis and Anna Melvina Adams Baird. Berta Jean went to school at Dixon, about 5 miles south of Hazelton, a brand new 2 room school house. When Berta was in 6th grade she and her sister Joyce, moved to the consolidated school in Hazelton.
Berta graduated from High School in 1953 then went 2 years at NNU in Nampa. Upon returning home she met a boy with straight, white hair named Earl Stone. They were married July 3, 1956, and soon had 4 children: David, twins Daryl and Daniel, and a daughter Debra Joy.
Earl worked for several different farmers in the area, then Bean Growers in Milner where the kids went to school in Burley. The family then moved to Eden in 1968 and purchased what was then, The Garden of Eden Motel. Although Earl and Berta later divorced, Berta continued to live in this house until an unfortunate accident in her home forced her to be moved to Serenity Transitional Care Center in Twin Falls. Her last year was not a pleasant one. She suffered tremendously.
Berta enjoyed playing her accordion and/or the piano in church. Music was a big part of life for the Stone family with the 3 boys each playing guitars to this day. Berta was also an avid seamstress making most of her and Debra’s dresses
